Club History

Parteen-Meelick GAA and Camogie Club is situated in south-east Clare.

We are a brand-new club, established October 2022!

Parteen GAA and Camogie Club was founded in 1885, with the addition of Camogie in 2006. Meelick GAA Club was founded in 1887. Unfortunately, due to an ageing population in the Meelick side of the Parteen-Meelick-Coonagh parish Meelick GAA club were having difficulty recruiting younger players. With this in mind and looking at the wider community a decision was made in early 2022 to come up with a proposal to amalgamate both clubs.

This amalgamation is a new beginning in Gaelic Games circles. For the first time in fifty-two years one club will represent the parish of Parteen-Meelick-Coonagh under the guise of Parteen-Meelick GAA and Camogie Club. Whilst this result was long sought after, the process for amalgamation began in earnest this summer when both clubs in Parteen and Meelick assigning their respective delegates.

Upon both clubs receiving their respective proposals for amalgamation, Special General Meetings were convened on both sides of the parish on 27th September. The results were not only comprehensive but uplifting for all who have strived for such progress.

A seventy-five per cent margin in favour of the amalgamation was required on both sides for the proposal to carry. With over two hundred patrons voting across the parish, Parteen would return a resounding 87.5% vote in favour of amalgamation whilst Meelick followed suit with 95.8%. The decision to amalgamate was ratified by Clare County Board Tuesday 11th October and Parteen-Meelick GAA and Camogie Club was born.
