Chairmans notes:

As Chairman of Parteen Meelick GAA & Camogie Club I would like to welcome each and every one of you to the first edition of our Weekly Newsletter. These are very exciting times for our recently formed GAA & Camogie Club. Having operated as separate clubs in the same parish since the foundation of the GAA in 1884 and representing a wide area from Coonagh to Meelick to Parteen to St.Nicholas’s Parish in Westbury, the members of both Parteen and Meelick GAA Clubs voted by a significant majority to form one new Club – Parteen Meelick GAA & Camogie Club to represent all of these areas in October 2022. Both Clubs had over the course of our history come together at various times as amalgamations and have delivered success at County level. With the growing success and profile of gaelic games and in an effort to compete against the very best, this new departure will give us every chance to compete at the highest level. Operating a Club of such a size which now boasts in excess of 500 players requires a significant number of volunteers in all areas from administration to coaching. It is our stated intention to operate a club where participation is open to all in hurling, football, camogie and ladies football (through our affiliation with East Clare Gaels) from underage to adult level. In addition to this it is our intention to embrace the cultural heritage of our country by competing at Scor (national GAA Club talent competition). Through our facilities which are based at Meelick Village and Lanahrone, Westbury we hope to develop what will be seen as a Club which leads the way in all that is good about gaelic games whilst maintaining best practice in all areas of member welfare and operating under the “One Club” model. Our new club has hit the ground running with the successful formation of a vibrant, hard working and united committee comprised of people from all parts of the parish. On the playing front we could not have had a better start to the year with the honour of having our clubman Jack Kirwan representing us on the Clare Senior Team in the National Hurling League. Plans are currently being finalised for the holding of our inaugural Golf Classic which will be held at Shannon Golf Club on 28th April, this will be one of our main fundraisers in addition to our Weekly Lotto. In addition to supporting these much needed revenue generators I would ask you all to become a member of our club by logging on to foireann.ie

Finally I would like to wish everyone involved in our Club every good wish for the year ahead.

Mise le meas,

Conor Gilligan

Chairman

Schools Coaching Update:

Over the last two terms the club has worked closely with both Parteen & Meelick national schools to establish coaching for the boys & girls in both football & hurling. Jim Corbett from the county games development group is leading these coaching sessions and the feedback from both schools has been very positive. It is planned that these coaching sessions will continue for the remainder of the school year.

Special thanks to Miriam Smyth (Principal) and Leah O’ Keeffe from Parteen national school and Maria O’ Looney (Principal) and Denis O’ Donnell from Meelick national school for their support and co-operation.
